Special Projects

Lanark CAS also requires volunteers for special projects - this can be on a 'one-time; basis or consecutive annual events.

Annual events

We hold one major fund raising event a year, such as a dinner dance where volunteers are required to help plan the event and volunteers are required the day and evening of the event for numerous tasks.

Snowsuit Campaign

Lanark CAS coordinates the snowsuit campaign - our motto is "We were warm - Shouldn't all children be?" Our goal is that all children and youth in the County will have a warm snowsuit to wear. Gently used snowsuits and jackets are donated and volunteers wash, mend and sort for distribution. Requests usually far outweigh donated snowsuits and new snowsuits are purchsed with monies donated and through fund raising by the CAS.

Requests for snowsuits are received for children known to CAS workers and other local organizations such as Open Doors, Connections, Food Bank, schools etc. Families can request snowsuits direclty by completing a request form avaiable at the CAS offices. Snowsuits are not given to children in care as foster parents receive funds from the Ministry for basic needs such as clothing for their children.

Volunteers for the snowsuit campaign are required for the following tasks:

Data entry of requests into system
Deliver 'drop boxes' throughout the County for snowsuits
Collect snowsuits from drop boxes
Washing, mending, sorting and tagging snowsuits
Phoning
Work at one of three locations throughout the County on distribution day
Assist with wrap up of the campaign - inventory etc.

Angel Tree Program

The Angel Tree program is a joint project with the Lanark detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). OPP officers and their volunteers distribute Christmas trees to Municipal and County offices. On each tree are hung coloured tags containing children's first names, age and suggested gift items. Members of our community choose a tag and return a new, unwrapped (or in a gift bag) gift to the tree. The OPP pick up all the gifts and deliver them to our CAS offices in Perth and Carleton Place. CAS workers distribute the gifts so that children throughout the County will have a gift Christmas morning.

Volunteers for the Angel Tree program are required for the following tasks:

Data entry of requests into system
Preparation of tags for trees
Sorting gifts as they arrive delivery day
